Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) - Rest Home

$20 - $24 / hour

This position is located in the Gallatin Rest Home and is responsible for performing a variety of basic resident care services including assisting residents with grooming and hygiene, escorting residents, observing and recording eating habits, assisting residents with socialization and communication skills, and providing various other direct care services as assigned. This position reports to the Director of Nursing Services and does not supervise other employees.


DIRECT RESIDENT CARE

  • Assists residents in activities of daily living, such as toileting, cleaning face and hands, oral hygiene, bathing, hair care, shaving, dressing, and eating.
  • Takes residents’ temperature, pulse, and blood pressure; collects specimens; ice bags, collars, and lotions.
  • Assists residents with changes in positioning.
  • Encourages residents to express feelings and emotions by talking with and listening to them.
  • Escorts and/or transports residents using specialized equipment for appointments, special events, or meals, and provides supervision during activities.
  • Records and reports residents’ status relevant to appetite, food preferences, eating habits, vital signs, weight and skin conditions.

THERAPEUTIC PROGRAM ASSISTANCE

  • Provides assistance to residents in areas including basic life skills, leisure skills, socialization and communication skills, active and passive range of motion skills, and ambulation skills.
  • Records residents’ physical and emotional status using established forms that describe routine care and significant behavioral or physical changes.
  • Reports significant changes in residents’ condition or environmental elements of concern to the nurse on duty.


This work requires knowledge of Rest Home guidelines and procedures, basic nursing skills, communication skills, and skill in the operation of specialized nursing home equipment (e.g., mechanical patient lifts, etc.). Applications for positions must be at least 18 years of age.


Work Environment/Physical Demands

Work is performed in a nursing facility, involving risk of infection or exposure to bodily fluids, which requires special safety precautions. In addition, the work requires excessive standing, walking, and other physical exertion, including but not limited to reaching, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pushing and pulling. Position must be able to safely and correctly use nursing facility devices such as gait belts and mechanical equipment for lifting, pulling and turning residents who may range in weight from less than 80 pounds to over 300 pounds. Position must also be able to lift 10 to 20 pounds frequently, 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and rarely lift 50 to 100 pounds.


The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and (1) year of related experience. The position also requires state certification as a Nurse's Aide. Must be certified in Montana.

Excellent Medical Health Benefits – Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees. The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees. The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees. The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $205.00 per pay period.


Medical deductible is $400 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.  

Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Gallatin County provides 240 hours of PPL to eligible full-time employees. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
