Staff Development and Infection Control Registered Nurse (RN)

Encore at Wilmington is currently hiring for a Staff Development and Infection Control Registered Nurse (RN). The Staff Development and Infection Control Registered Nurse (RN) is  responsible for providing emergency intervention to residents to facilitate the residents’ well-being and providing nursing intervention to facilitate the individual residents independence. Plans, organizes, develops, directs and evaluates the nursing service operation ensuring the highest degree of quality patient care. Ensures adherence to all applicable federal, state and local standards, and promotes regulatory compliance. The Staff Developer aspect of the role is responsible for the development and implementation of the orientation program and on-going educational programs for all staff at the Community. The Infection Preventionist facet of the role is focused on assisting the DON in the training and supervision of Infection Control practices in the facility. The role is responsible for ensuring the annual Infection Control training requirements are met for nursing personnel. The role oversees the facility Infection Control program as the Infection Preventionist, ensures infection control compliance in accordance with facility policy and regulatory requirements. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Staff Development:

 

·       Also known as Nurse Educator - coordinate training, implementation and maintenance of Memory Care programs as well as overseeing the ongoing education of nursing staff. Must maintain a strong foundation of this program. 

 

·       Provide intervention to respond to emergencies and concerns.

 

·       Maintain medical charting and required documentation under scope state regulatory guidelines for appropriate licensing and corporate policies.

 

·       Serve as the department representative and coordinator of the Quality Assurance program for nursing services.

 

·       Follow and assists with maintaining OSHA compliance.

 

·       Assist licensed staff with maintaining contact with Physicians to facilitate and maintain coordination of resident care.

 

·       Audit resident records for adherence to community policy and procedures and maintenance of all regulatory components.

 

·       Maintain oversight of the community Red Flag system.

 

·       Responsible for the development and implementation of the orientation program and on-going educational programs for all staff at the Community. Provides specific orientation for Health Center and Assisted Living nursing staff.

 

·       Plans, conducts and evaluates organized orientation and training programs for all newly hired employees which are scheduled on a regular basis.

 

·       Plans the annual and monthly training program calendar in collaboration with other facility management team members.

 

·       Plans and coordinates management training programs with guidance from the Director of Human Resources.

 

·       Recruits instructors with expertise in the appropriate discipline to improve and develop skills of employees. Utilizes community resources for training programs.

 

·       Assists in the planning and coordination of training programs for all departments within the facility to respond to identified problem areas, service quality or to teach new procedures or methods.

 

·       Maintains appropriate training records and program materials as required by federal and state regulations.

 

·       Provide specific orientation to Health Center nursing staff including completion of the clinical skills check-list.

 

·       Monitors outcome of employee training sessions with regard to skills taught and session evaluations.

 

·       Develops, maintains and upgrades the standards for policies and procedures for the Training and Development Department.

 

·       Participates in the budget for Training and Development. Submits monthly variance reports to the Business Office.

 

·       Assumes a proactive role in resolving resident issues & concerns related to assigned areas of responsibility.

 

·       Contributes to a positive, healthy, and safe working environment.

 

 

 

Infection Preventionist: 

 

·       Serves on the Quality Assurance Committee, CQI Committee, Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee and other committees as assigned.

 

 

 

·       Observe and abide by all regulations to ensure that personal health information is protected during its collection, use, disclosure, storage, and destruction within the community; and to ensure only the minimum necessary information is known to function in this position.

 

·       Assure resident safety.

 

·       Follow written and oral directions.

 

·       Maintain confidentiality of resident and community information.

 

·       Assist new employees in following established community policies and procedures.

 

·       Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.

 

·       Attend all in-services as assigned or requested.

 

·       Participate in interdisciplinary team and other community meetings as assigned or requested.

 

·       Consistently work cooperatively with residents, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel and other ancillary service providers.

 

·       Observe all community safety policies and procedures.

 

·       Is observant of safety hazards and emergency situations, and reports to appropriate person or takes corrective action according to established procedures.

 

·       Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.

·       Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to state procedures.                                                                                                                   

 

·       Perform incidental housekeeping and maintenance tasks as may arise during the course of regular duties, in order to maintain a clean, safe, pleasant environment for residents, visitors and staff.

 

·       Perform all other related duties as assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.

 

·       Responsible for ensuring that nursing personnel complete all Infection Control training requirements.

 

·       Responsible for ensuring that nursing personnel complete the timely documentation of vaccination administration for residents and staff within facility and regulatory standards.

 

·       Oversees the Infection Control process by tracking and analyzing data, maintaining logs and implementing plans of action as indicated.

 

·       Actively participates in the Quality Assurance by tracking and analyzing data, maintaining logs and implementing plans of action as indicated.

 

·       Completes regular compliance audits and “rounds” to ensure facility units, resident rooms, and all care areas meet facility standards, nursing standards of practice, and regulatory requirements.

 

·       Actively participates in the on-call rotation.

 

·       Attends Patient Care Plan, Quality Assurance, and Team meetings as scheduled.  Participates in appropriate Quality Assurance subcommittees and other ad hoc committees.

 

·       Assists the DON to ensure that nursing services are conducted in compliance with Infection Control Standards of Practice and regulatory guidelines.

 

·       Participates in in-service education and new staff orientation.

 

·       Adheres to Infection Control policies, including Hand Hygiene & Isolation Protocols.

 

·       Maintain Antibiotic Stewardship program including infection tracking, McGreer criteria status and QAPI reports

 

·       Maintains proper personal, and physical hygiene.

 

·       Follows all Infection Control/Universal Precautions as directed by policies established by the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in Nursing. Experience in assisted living.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION OR OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse within the State of Delaware or Compact State.       

• The ability to speak, read and comprehend the English language

• Knowledge in all areas of local Health Department, OSHA, and other state regulatory agencies relevant to healthcare services

• Good communication skills (oral and written)

• Good inter-department communication and teamwork skills

• Capable of administering employee incentive, retention and training programs

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products
