Overview

The Adjunct Lecturer (AL) is responsible for clinical and laboratory supervision and the evaluation of students for the delivery of both residential and distance education courses. The AL is accountable for student outcomes and acts as a resource for students providing support, remediation, and referral as needed. The AL shall maintain professional competence in their specific discipline through such activities as practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing. The AL participates in community and institutional service activities which contribute to the mission of RHS and RCHC.

Essential functions are fundamental job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities that are necessary to perform the position. For all College Instructor and Staff positions, standards are intended to apply to all educational delivery methods residential, blended and/or distance as feasible.

What you will do

  • Demonstrates activities in the support of learning including instructional design, delivery (both residential and distance delivery methods), assessment, course and student management, and academic advising.
  • Completes required instructional scholarly activity & professional development to including 2 activities related to Distance Education, 2 activities in the instructor’s professional discipline, 2 activities directly related to teaching, and 1 activity related to instructional simulation (not applicable to RN-to-BSN faculty).
  • Accountable for program, student, and graduate outcomes for course pass rates.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates Degree, In the Allied Health Profession of hire, Education, or related field (Required) and
  • Program Graduate, In the Allied Health Profession of hire (Required)

Experience

  • 3-4 years Recent (within last 5 years) clinical experience or teaching in the specified clinical field or a combination of the two prior to hire date (Required)
  • Experience in a clinical educational setting (Preferred)
  • Formal didactic teaching experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required) and
  • Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (Required)

Familiarity and manual dexterity required with all basic surgical instruments, supplies, equipment and procedures. Basic analytical skills necessary to develop solutions to problems concerning technical needs of surgery. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when conducting procedures and operating special computer software. BLS-HCP Certification required and/or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. A PRN caregiver in this position works varying days from 6:30AM – 3:00PM. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide quality, individualized patient care in the perioperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases. Follow guidelines for perioperative practices as established by AORN. Maintain the sterile field. Review daily assignments and ascertain surgeon-specific preferences and anesthesia. Identify and prioritize individual patient care needs taking into consideration age, physiological, cultural and physical status. Plan care based on contemplated procedure, standards of practice, admission assessment and MD preferences. Assemble, check and open sterile packs, sutures and more. Practice and assist others in maintaining aseptic technique and report and/or correct any breaks. Comply with required standards for patient positioning, skin preparation, counting and side-site verification. Remain with the sterile setup to assure maintenance of the sterile field. Assist with draping the sterile field. Prepare/edit surgeon's preference lists. Communicate pertinent information during procedure and during personnel changes, including status of surgical procedure. Collect specimens as directed by the surgeon and identify the origin of each specimen to the RN Circulator. Assist surgeons and assistants with retraction and suction as directed. Assure that all biohazard material is handled and disposed of properly using universal precautions. Keep accurate counts of all sutures, sharps, soft goods and instruments. Assist RN Circulator to ensure proper room utilization through decreased turnover time per CPT and scheduled procedural time review. Assure that all instrumentation is returned to decontamination with proper documentation count sheets.
