Texas Surgical Center is seeking a qualified Surgical Scrub Tech: NO CALL NO HOLIDAYS Full Time 5609 Deauville Blvd. Midland, TX 79706 Specialties Include: Orthopedics, Robotic Total Joint Program, ENT, General, General Robotics, Gynecology, Pain, Podiatry Job Summary: Anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures. Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment. Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team. Attends in-services, conferences, and meetings as required. Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees. Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy. Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center. Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center. Complies with Policies and Procedures, and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment. Required Skills: Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual shall be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure. Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications. Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures. Maintains a safe sterile field by a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient. Understands the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself. Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications. Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture. Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase. What qualifications you will need: Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required. Certification in Surgical Technology. Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required. 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience is Required.
