Location: Chicago, Illinois Hospital: Rush University Medical Center Department: Neurology Stroke Work Type: Full Time Advanced Practice Provider - Stroke Rush University Medical Center Chicago, IL Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Advanced Practice Provider for the Stroke Program . The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Stroke Program is a critical member of the multidisciplinary Neuro-Sciences team. This role involves the management of complex stroke patients in a high-volume, Comprehensive Stroke Center. The APP will provide expert clinical care, performing acute stroke assessments (Code Strokes), rounding on inpatient services, and coordinating post-acute care to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and clinical outcomes Key Responsibilities Clinical Excellence Acute Response: Lead or assist in "Code Stroke" activations, performing rapid neurological assessments and determining eligibility for thrombolytics or endovascular intervention. Inpatient Management: Perform daily rounds on the Stroke and Neuro-ICU services, managing patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, TIAs, and other cerebrovascular disorders. Diagnostic Interpretation: Order and interpret specialized diagnostic tests including CT/CTA/CTP, MRI/MRA, and cerebral angiography. Procedures: Perform or assist in bedside procedures as credentialed (e.g., lumbar punctures) and manage post-procedural care for patients following thrombectomy or carotid stenting. Collaboration & Coordination Multidisciplinary Care: Partner with Vascular Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Interventional Neuroradiologists, and the Rehabilitation team to develop comprehensive discharge plans. Patient Advocacy: Act as the primary point of contact for patients and families, providing education on stroke risk factors, secondary prevention, and recovery expectations. Quality & Education Data-Driven Care: Participate in Stroke Quality Committee meetings and contribute to the maintenance of Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) benchmarks. Staff Training: Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and residents regarding NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) accuracy and stroke protocol adherence Preferred Qualifications Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in Neurological Sciences is preferred. Relevant RN experience may be considered. APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification Position Requirements Nurse Practitioner: Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications Physician Assistant Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role.
