Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Safety and Security Technician to assist with providing a safe environment for all patients and staff inside of the Maximum Security Unit by processing and delivering patient mail and by assisting with engagement activities and the monitoring of patients while inside of the Treatment Mall area. Job Duties: - Ensures that only authorized persons enter and exit your areas of control. - Supervise and observe patients at assigned posts. - Follow key control policy. - Make security rounds and ensure that treatment mall is secure. - Assist other Disciplines with ensuring all patients are in their homerooms prior to patient movement off the treatment mall. - Assist patients with finding the correct rooms for groups - Ensure that all rooms are clear of patients and doors are secure prior to exiting the mall at the end of your post. - Communicate with the control center that the Treatment mall is clear at the end of treatment mall hours. - Monitor patient activities. - Ensure that patients leaving the mall are properly escorted. - Ensure all incoming patient mail is picked up in an a timely manner. - Scan all incoming mail before giving to patients. This includes letters/packages/magazines etc. - Separate all mail by wards listing patient name items received and date prior to distributing. - Open patients mail but not read in their presence to ensure there is no contraband. - Ensure all returned packages are properly packed and delivered to CSH warehouse in a timely manner. - Report any and all problems immediately to the shift supervisor. - Deliver mail to patients in a timely manner. - Build rapports and Communicate with patients, staff and visitors in a positive manner. - Therapeutic relationships with patients. - Provide monitoring and assistance to activities in order to maintain a safe therapeutic environment. - Engage in activities with patients in order to build rapports and professional relationships. - Use safety plans to deescalate situations without the use of physical intervention. - Use communication skills to avoid the use of restrictive measures. - Promote positive behavior by serving as a role model. - Make rounds throughout the unit to ensure a safe environment. - Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times when interacting with patients. - Respond in a professional manner to various incidents and emergencies and assist as directed by the on duty charge person. - Make rounds and monitor patient activities. - Properly monitor special staffing assignments. - Ensures documentation is neat and legible. - Complete documentation as assigned and submit to the supervisor.
