Our Labor & Delivery Unit is a Level II center, which provides care to both normal and high-risk laboring and ante partum patients. Approximately 2000 babies are born each year at UNC Health Johnston. Over a thousand patients are also seen in its triage area. The unit consists of 13 labor and delivery rooms, 4 triage rooms, and 2 operating rooms across our 2 campuses Smithfield and Clayton. Anesthesia coverage is provided 24/7. Summary: The Clinical Nurse IV practices at the level of an expert practitioner of nursing as defined by Benner, P. (1984). From Novice to Expert. Addison-Wesley Publishing Company. The nurse at this level demonstrates expertise in caring for patients with multiple and complex problems. Overview The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will work under the general supervision of their Medical Director, all physician partners, and their APP Manager, in WakeMed Physician Practices to deliver competent medical care to patients at WakeMed.
