Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center. High-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients will also be housed, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000 square foot hospital which also features twenty surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. Responsibilities* The Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a 24 bed ICU that cares for patients from neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) services. Medical problems most often treated on this unit include: thrombectomies, post-operative craniotomies for brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas, severe head and/or spinal cord injuries, increased intracranial pressure, caring for and assessing free flaps, doppler usage, tracheostomy care/management, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, and Guillain-Barre syndrome. Responsibilities* Pediatric Critical Care Nursing is a specialty within nursing that deals specifically with human responses to life-threatening problems. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion is a 12-story hospital that will house 264 private rooms capable of converting to intensive care; a state-of-the-art neurosciences center; and high-level, specialty care services for cardiovascular and thoracic patients, along with advanced imaging. The 690,000-square-foot hospital which also features 20 surgical and three interventional radiology suites is being constructed adjacent to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, with plans for bridge and tunnel connections to existing inpatient care facilities. Responsibilities* Under physician supervision, directs and coordinates care in the cardiac intensive critical care area. Care provided is for the adult patient population, including but not limited to NSTEMI/STEMI, advanced heart failure, pre- and post-heart transplant, and mechanical circulatory support. Some of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) duties include (not an all-inclusive list) Complete detailed histories and physicals, daily progress notes, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, and discharge orders/documentation. Responsible for primary Code Team Coverage in the Pavilion Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies. Order tests/prescribe medications. Present pertinent data to the medical staff and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout Cardiovascular Medicine, including thorough and accurate hand-offs. Procedures include point-of-care ultrasound for physical assessment, placement of arterial lines, central venous catheters, and placing NG tubes/dobhoff. Confer with attending physicians and collaborate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate and communicate clinical care needs both inpatient and outpatient, and internal/external care providers. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments Perform other related duties as required. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of medical principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws, and State and Federal laws/regulations. Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development. Adhere to all Michigan Medicine dress codes, personnel, and safety policies. Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction utilizing service excellence and Patient Family Centered Care in daily practice. Required Qualifications* Nurse Practitioners Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan. Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Current DEA registration AHA BLS and ACLS certified 1 year full time APP experience rounding in an ICU, inpatient cardiology, advanced heart failure service, internal medicine inpatient service, or emergency medicine; or applicants who are currently enrolled in a recognized ICU-focused APP fellowship (Critical Care Medicine, Surgical Critical Care, Medical ICU, or Cardiology/Cardiovascular Surgery ICU). Physician Assistants Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Responsibilities* This 48 bed unit on Pavilion 8 provides care to neurology and neurosurgery patients with the following diagnoses: brain and spinal cord tumors, epilepsy, stroke, cerebral aneurysm, neuropathy, Myasthenia Gravis, head and spinal cord trauma. Required Qualifications* Current Michigan RN license for all candidates that have passed the NCLEX. GN applicants will be considered for this position.
