Gloucester, Virginia Overview The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions under the direct supervision of the physician and practice manager. What you will do Maintains excellent clinical competency by adhering to the standard clinical expectations for Riverside Medical Group. This includes updating, verifying, and maintaining patient records by properly interviewing the patient and confirming purpose of visit. Prepares patient for examination by obtaining vital signs proficiently (including manual vital signs when mechanical devices are not available). Prepare and sanitize exam rooms before and after patient appointments. Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician. Assists with processing prescription refill requests for approval and forwarding to pharmacies. Maintains medical inventory of supplies and keeps exam rooms stocked appropriately. Keeps any necessary equipment in operating order and facilitating preventive maintenance when needed. Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations with scope of practice, HIPAA, and OSHA standards. Completes all required competencies and education to maintain skill level to provide safe patient care. Acts as a liaison between physician and patient, by providing support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations. Demonstrates excellent customer service to include providing timely patient response and follow up by phone and electronic means. Manages patient expectations with clear explanations (i.e., informing patients about delays as appropriate) and effectively manages the providers' patient schedules. Assists patients with providing access to care with appointments, referrals, and providing necessary information. Assists with patient education per protocol and direct provider instruction to include directions in the after-visit summary within the electronic medical record. Exhibits knowledge of lab procedures to include specimen collection, phlebotomy, point of care testing, and use of ABN’s (if applicable in hired practice). Properly processes, packages, and sends specimens to correct laboratory. Obtains preauthorization when needed. Proficient in managing point of care logs and documenting point of care testing accurately in the electronic health record. Follows insurance carrier guidelines and Medicare regulations. Maintains a working knowledge of ICD9 and CPT coding and seeks assistance as needed. Obtains prior authorizations when needed. Schedules tests and specialist visits within network limitations. Supports productivity goals to maximize use of facility resources to meet patient demand. Maximizes physician visits so that productivity targets are met. Assists and contributes to meet quality measures for the organization. The RN may work in a variety of settings (typically in a home care type setting) and roles within Riverside Health System. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of specific patient populations served in their assigned area. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team (physical, speech, or occupational therapy; medical social services, and Home Health Aide services) to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans. What you will do Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the total nursing care of assigned patients on caseload on an intermittent visiting basis. Applies standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population served. ( i.e. med surg, hospice, IV therapy). Develops the initial and ongoing comprehensive assessment of the clients needs, including Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) assessments at appropriate points. Supervises and delegates non-professional staff to ensure optimum patient care. Recognizes and responds to emergency situations. Evaluates own needs for support and uses identified systems and resources to meet patient care needs. Supervises LPN/LVN's, and Home Health Aides in providing services. Completes all required clinical documentation consistently per RHS standards which includes completing and "locking" patient notes and verbal orders, as well as completing certifications and recertification's after the department's multi-disciplinary team meetings. Completes required documentation no later than the last day of the month in order to provide timely billing. Implements/initiates a plan of care and revises when necessary, provides services and/or treatments requiring specialized nursing skill, councils the client and family in meeting nursing need, coordinates services, informs the physician and other staff of changes in the client's needs, and plans for the patient to be discharged from our services. Initiates appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures and provides treatments and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes and stability of the patient. Participates in case conferences. Provides education to client and family. Participates in training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed.
