About the Unit 8 South Oncology is a 44 bed, adult inpatient unit driven by the complex clinical and psychosocial needs of the Oncology patient population. Nurses on this unit care for patients experiencing various stages and complications from hematology/oncology diagnosis. Patients may range from the newly diagnosed to those seeking end of life care. Our unit provides the opportunity to develop critical thinking and assessment skills while working with high acuity patients, managing the latest chemotherapy and biotherapy regimes, blood product administrations, pain management, and central line care . In addition to the technical aspects of the position, 8 South provides the unique opportunity to develop and maintain strong relationships with patients and their families throughout the course of their treatment. Scope of work Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Provides the services of an Observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation, either in person or via remote video monitoring, to maximize his/her safety. A Wing is a 58 bed Medicare/Medicaid unit that has residents with multiple clinical issues including CHF, dehydration, cellulites, diabetes, DVT, and stable cardiac related issues needing monitoring. Nurses work closely with a variety of health care professionals including: doctors, social work, dieticians, PT/OT, hospice, and spiritual support. A Wing offers a well-rounded opportunity for learning, professional growth and personal satisfaction. B Wing is a 40 bed Medicare/Medicaid/Dementia unit. We provide care to residents with a variety of diagnoses. B wing is a great unit for nursing students to develop their organizational skills and gain some experience in dealing with challenging behaviors. This unit also works closely with a multidisciplinary team meets and discusses the resident’s plan of care. C Wing is a 58 bed Medicare/Rehabilitation and Skilled unit and is a great place to learn basic med-surg, I.V. therapy & wound treatments nursing skills. Nurses on this unit along with host of healthcare professionals work to provide and implement the best treatment plan for residents. This fast paced and busy unit provide a great atmosphere for PT/OT residents to be motivated and reach their goals. About the facility With 2 floors, 4 units, we are able to provide care for long term care residents and post-acute rehab patients. The first floor has 96 beds and the second floor has 100 beds. Nurse-patient ratios vary depending on the shift and the population you will be serving. We care for dementia residents, long term care and a rehab residents. With 196 beds, we accept but not limited to patient specialties, such as general rehab, neuro rehab, cardiac, respiratory and cancer. We also have various programs for residents to participate in multiple activities. Scope of work Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality, direct patient care. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Provides direct patient care under the direction of the Unit Manager or Licensed Nurse, consistent with policies and procedures of the unit. Responsible for direct day-to-day care of assigned residents/patients including dressing, bathing, transporting and feeding. About the unit 5 South is a cardiac stepdown or a telemetry unit. We have 32 beds with 28 semi-private rooms and 4 private rooms.
