Summary/Objective In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Nurse Supervisor R.N. plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services to all Guests on the assigned unit as well as in the facility as a whole. The Nurse Supervisor assists the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing (D.O.N) in the planning, development and overall operation of the assigned unit, which ensures Guests receive quality care 24 hours a day. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Assists the D.O.N and A.D.O.N. with planning, directing, and supervising the activities of the nursing staff. 2. Ensures the Nursing Department is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 3. Develop, implement and update department policy and procedures when necessary or as directed. 4. Assists with staffing to ensure Guest needs and regulatory requirements are met at all times. 5. Participates in Federal, State and Local agency annual surveys. 6. Reviews any deficiencies noted by government agencies during inspections and assists with the implementation of changes needed to correct any deficiencies found. 7. Provides guidance and education to staff in regards to their performance. 8. Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed. 9. Responsible for training and educating staff members on the assigned unit. 10. Responsible to ensure adequate staffing on the assigned unit at all times including but not limited to filling in as a floor Nurse and coordinating floor Nurse and C.N.A. breaks. 11. Assure that established infection control and prevention practices and standard precautions are maintained at all times. 12. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies. 13. Facilitate Nurse to Nurse admission and discharge reports to/from hospitals and other institutions. 14. Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, accidents/incidents and supply issues to the appropriate persons. 15. Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment. 16. Ensure each Guest receives person centered care. 17. Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas. 18. Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Guests to different rooms within the assigned unit. 19. Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors. 20. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services. 21. Answers call lights when working in a resident care unit. 22. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services. 23. Recognize your role as part of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts of your organization. 24. Attend trainings to build understanding and capacity to undertake QAPI work. 25. Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned. 26. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts. 27. Any noted opportunities for improvement will be shared with leadership in the organization. 28. Communicate to leadership upon witnessing a positive outcome of a QAPI project or detecting barriers preventing project success. 29. Support QAPI efforts both verbally and non-verbally (i.e., via actions and attitude), including adjusting performance and practice in accordance with QAPI initiatives and findings. 30. Participate in compliance trainings as scheduled and adhere to compliance plan. Supervisory Responsibility This position directly supervises all Nursing staff on the assigned unit including but not limited to R.N’s, L.P.N’s and C.N.A’s Work Environment This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to and working in various locations around the facility while pulling or pushing carts. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position works mostly in the Guest care and office areas as well as occasional outside weather conditions. This role may also come into contact with Guests who may have contagious illnesses. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping on a regular basis. The employee must be able to lift and move items and patients weighing at least 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This position is part of a health care facility that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. Travel Travel to and from company headquarters and other locations will be required. Required Education and Experience • Graduate from and accredited nursing program. • Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (R.N.) License in the state of practice. • C.P.R. Certified • 2 years R.N. experience Preferred Education and Experience • 5 years R.N. experience. • Previous experience managing a Nursing department or unit. Additional Eligibility Qualifications • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local requirements and regulations. Required Education and Experience Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (R.N.) License in the state of practice. C.P.R. Certified As a Registered Nurse (RN) you are the backbone of the Clinical Department. Your work will ensure our residents receive the high standard of care they have grown to expect at our facilityby ensuring residents receive the medication and nursing care they need as directed by their individual care plan, conducting resident assessments, being a team leader, and advocating for your residents.
