Department** : Laboratory - Hematology Location:** Englewood, NJ Status:** Per Diem Shift:** Day Hours** : 7am – 3pm (Every Other Weekend) Job Essentials Performs, records, and reports specimen analysis in one section of the laboratory in a timely manner, according to departmental policies and procedures. Interprets data and answers questions from physicians, nurse and staff concerning test requirements, results, or specimen handling. Operates complex laboratory equipment requiring special skills. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment per policy. Calibrates instruments as needed or when specified by manufacturer and/or regulations. Assesses the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures; correlates clinical information and recognizes changes that are critical to patient care, identifies probable causes for irregular and atypical findings. Follows protocol for running and documenting Quality Control and CAP required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure. Collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve laboratory performance. Prepares stains, reagents, solutions and mounts slides for microscopic analysis as needed. Observes and analyzes reactions. Discusses abnormal or unusual results or other problems with supervisors and other appropriate personnel. Responds appropriately to results with the status of STAT, call results, patient waiting, or timed specimens; informs nursing unit and/or physician of critical lab values with complete documentation on report. Checks work list status on computer to make sure all work is complete and/or accounted for. Performs non-technical functions such as inventory of supplies, and maintaining a clean, orderly work area. Disposes of sharps and needles properly. Instructs and checks work of personnel of less skill and experience. Assists in teaching students and new personnel and may participate in other teaching programs of the hospital. Interprets data and answers questions from physicians, nurses, and staff concerning test requirements, results, or specimen handling. Maintains open communication with supervisors, pathologists, and fellow employees to ensure optimal operation of department. Communicates pertinent information to other members of the health care team in a clinically relevant time frame to enhance the lab's contribution to patient care. Maintains a high level of quality and safety. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Meets regulatory and annual health assessment requirements. Displays a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and extended community. Maintains high standards of service excellence in all interactions with patients, physicians, other departments and co-workers. Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis and offers supportive assistance to co-workers. Performs other duties as required by department. Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. 0-2 years of experience in the Laboratory. Proficient in the Hematology area of the Laboratory. License/Certification/Registry ASCP Preferred Englewood Health provides a minimum rate to comply with New Jersey Law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Assists physicians, nurses, and other clinicians with design, implementation, workflow optimization, and issue resolution related to electronic health record (EHR) and other clinical applications. Functions as a liaison between the clinical community and IT analysts, and a key resource for application and/or clinical workflows and software systems. Develops and manages complex projects. Works with clinical users to understand clinical information technology project needs. Recommends resource planning and support needs to ensure successful project implementation. Oversees the design and development of application programs from analysis to implementation and assists with these duties as needed. Creates system specification and workflow documents for new projects and/or features. Maintains existing specifications and project documents for complex clinical IT initiatives that include technical details, user expectations, project goals, work effort, accountability, and deliverables. Coordinates the installation of software and/or hardware. Works in concert with other HST/IS&T Departments pertaining to the planning and implementation of systems to ensure that HST/IS&T standards are met. Manages documentation and communication for problem determination and resolution. Researches complex issues and offers solutions. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Bachelor’s Degree, with preference for Hospital Administration, a health related discipline (Nursing, Pharmacy, etc.), or related clinical field. Licensure in a clinical profession is required. Five (5) years of experience in information systems with preference given to candidates within a hospital environment. Extensive subject matter expertise on clinical systems and knowledge of clinical operations and workflows. Direct experience with electronic medical records is a plus; prior Epic experience is highly desirable. Must complete certification on Epic application specified by management within 6 months of training. Demonstrates interpersonal skills working in a service-oriented environment. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Capable of functioning/leading in a team environment. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements. Additional relevant experience, or clinical expertise, may be substituted for information systems experience. Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse (Circulating/Scrub) position is to be accountable for achieving patient goals through creating and maintaining a safe environment for the patient undergoing procedures while anesthetized or sedated. The role of the circulating RN is patient centered, and is essential for timely delivery of quality care and optimal patient outcomes in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
