Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor Physician Assistant and OR Nurse Manager and in collaboration with the operating surgeon, the RNFA renders direct patient care in the perioperative setting. The RNFA practices an expanded role of perioperative nursing, and has acquired knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon through organized instruction and supervision within the RNFA scope of practice as defined by this job description, the NJ Board of Medical Examiners, credentials as determined by the Credentials Committee, and within the limitations of preparation and experience. Responsibilities: Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop, coordinate and implement a plan of care unique to individual patient needs. Communicates effectively with team members, physicians, nursing and ancillary staff. Performs as a first assistant to surgeons during operative procedures in the inpatient and outpatient care settings. Demonstrates intraoperative competency in the performance of operative and procedural skills. Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to surgical procedure. Provides for appropriate positioning, prepping, and draping of the patient per physician protocol. Applies principles of asepsis and infection control. Handles tissue as directed by the surgeon.
