Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Part Time Licensed Practical Nurse for Northern State Prison located in Newark, NJ The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse position is to, in accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administer total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides technical nursing care to assigned patients, performs treatments and procedures within established guidelines, and provides a safe and therapeutic environment. Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Participates in data collection related to the patients’ status and needs. * Provides input to Registered Nurse for incorporation into the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient’s status. * Provides direct patient care within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care. * Informs and instructs patients/significant others on patient’s health/illness state and plan of care. * Assists patient/significant other in preparation for discharge and health maintenance in the home. * Documents all aspects of patient care.

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full Time Staff Nurse for Northern State Prison located in Newark, NJ The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Among the key duties of this position are the following: * Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the resident-patient including adolescents (13-17 years), adults (18 to 64 years) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system. * Performs assessments of resident-patient in a variety of settings such as initial intake area, health care unit for sick call, emergency situations in housing, chronic care clinics and infirmary. * Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. * Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems. * Plans nursing care by identification of resident-patient needs based on assessments. Makes appropriate, timely referrals and initiates appropriate nursing care based on institutional policies and procedures. * As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to other health care team members based on their skill, knowledge and experience and guides the provision of care by others.
