Summary The section of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is seeking a competent and reliable Registered Nurse I to be a part of the GIM group to support our clinicians providing services to patients. This position will assist in the care of patients under the direction of our team of physicians. The RN I position is expected to demonstrate clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, managing emergencies, and acting as a patient and family advocate in order to monitor and maintain patient rights. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude. Position should be able to perform nursing and administrative duties using the principles of team-based and patient-centered care, chronic care management models, and quality improvement. It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first. This position is located at our McNair campus. Job Duties Conducts nurse visits, rooming and discharges patients, takes vital signs, administers vaccines and medications, and assists with in-clinic procedures. Handles day-to-day Epic Inbasket management and works alongside nurse supervisor for DoM and practice manager. Performs procedures as determined by the clinical needs of the department, including but not limited to intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, performing nebulizer and inhaler treatments, performing EKG's, administering and reading PPD's, removing sutures, performing ear lavage, dressing wounds, and performing other procedures that are within the scope of professional nursing practice. Provides patient education related to topics such as patient self-care, taking medications appropriately, use of nebulizers and inhalers, diabetic education, wound care, and self-injections. Performs and oversees non-face to face activities, including answering patient phone calls, responding to patient messages, triaging patients, and scheduling patient visits. Provides advice regarding treatment of certain minor acute problems and referring questions to the PCP or APN/PA as needed. Provides on-going assistance to support staff, MA's and supervises in areas such as proper and thorough message taking and emergency telephone protocols. Maintains awareness of clinic activity, supporting teamwork by offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for assistance. Collaborates with team members, including staff, providers and administrators of primary and other departments, to foster healthy relationships in the work environment. Provides and modifies care for complex patients using clinical judgement and evidence-based analytical approach. Coordinates care with the interprofessional team based on evaluation of the patient's condition and supported by accurate documentation. Monitors clinic workflow and delegating tasks to the clinic staff as needed to meet patient, clinic, and provider needs. Participates in departmental and college-wide quality improvement activities. Maintains Nursing License by the State of Texas Board of Nursing guidelines and Basic Life Support BLS certification as per the Baylor College of Medicine policy. Participates in patient follow-up activities, including relaying diagnostic test results, arranging for prescription refills, facilitating referrals, performing prior authorizations, and preparing information for prescription renewals at the request of the PCP/APC. Summary The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, is seeking a full-time Instructor Faculty for the position of Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This position offers a unique experience in a high-volume Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in Pediatric Critical Care. Texas Children's Hospital is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the United States, comprised of 170 intensive care beds spread across four campuses and is the affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. The primary clinical site for this position is at Texas Children's Hospital, Medical Center Campus in Houston. The Division of Critical Care Medicine, in the Department of Pediatrics, is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants), post¬doctoral fellows, and research support personnel committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. The Medical Center PICU is in the state-of-the-art Lester and Sue Smith Legacy Tower. The 92-bed unit includes a Surgical ICU, Neurological ICU, Pulmonary ICU, Hematology/Oncology ICU, and Transitional ICU (TICU). The Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, critical care physician fellows, advanced practice providers, consultants and pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU and TICU. At present, the PICU has over 2500 admissions per year, with more than half of the patients requiring assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, extra-corporeal liver support, an/or continuous renal replacement therapy. The TICU also has more than 2500 admissions per year, and it is specifically designed for children who require long-term technology support and those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home. This unit focuses on the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Job Duties Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Maintain records by writing orders and progress notes in patient charts to document patient status, treatments, and procedures. Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees. Supervision of Fellows. Included in day and night on-call schedule for the pediatric intensive care unit. Liaison and collaboration with stakeholders in CICU, PICU, neonatology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery. Participation in all CCM Section and educational activities including case presentations, quality reviews, didactic teaching, and core lecture series. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician. Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care. Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management. Perform other job-related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Education Required: Master’s degree in nursing for Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC) Master of Physician Assistant Studies Degree (MSPAS) or similar. Job Description We are searching for an Inpatient Registered Nurse in our Operating Room -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. Job Duties & Responsibilities Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per site protocol Collects and documents vital signs, height/weight and reason for visit Prepares patient for examination per site protocol Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of site Administers medication and immunizations as directed by physician per site protocol Documents administration of medication and immunizations in the medical record per site protocol Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or site protocol Documents such education in the medical record Coordinates referrals Triages presenting patient complaint per site protocol Verifies provider order and patient per site protocol Collects and processes specimen according to manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique Demonstrates service philosophies to patients and families As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards. Skills & Requirements Bachelor's degree in nursing or one of the following: Associate degree in nursing/related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement Technical Diploma in Nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement Must be currently enrolled in A Nursing Bridge Program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
