Administrative and managerial responsibilities fall into five major areas: 1. Administrative; 2. Staff Development; 3. Education; 4. Leadership 5. Emergency Department services. In addition the APP manager is an expert clinician in delivering Emergency Department medicine.Maintains 24 hour line management responsibility for the administration of fiscal, material, and human resources. The primary managerial responsibility of the ED Manager is the oversight of the clinical care provided by the Emergency Department APP group. The primary clinical responsibility is to provide expert level Emergency Department clinical services to patients and families in the Emergency Department at UCSF Health. An advanced practice provider manager is an advanced practice provider who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide expert advanced patient care in their area of specialization. They will be guided and follow the policies and standardized procedures or practice agreement, rules and regulations, requirement of supervision under CA statute, and bylaws of the UCSF Health, Nursing, Medical Staff, and any unique policies related to the provision of patient services. In California, nurse practitioners (APRNs) and physician assistants (PAs) can practice, bill, and provide independent health care services under a standardized procedure or practice agreement in collaboration with a supervising physician. This position requires both a role as provider of clinical services as determined by the manager and the administrative functions of the position which involve future workforce planning, orientation of new APP providers, cost center management, and optimization strategies. Ensure all orders are complete, including frequency, and that any corrections are made by the licensed professional who wrote the order, prior to approving the order; complete any follow up tasks as deemed necessary, by order. Enter and approve all orders; route to medical records to be sent for physician signature. Ensure that there are existing orders for requested medical supplies. Enter detailed non-admit information into patient record in coordination notes if no visit was made; ensure the branch director is informed approve the non-admission. Review and process all wound score deviations, documenting any action and follow up. Review and process vital sign alert reports; document follow-up action and physician notification. Receive lab reports and assess for normality; fax lab report to the physician with signature indicating review. Scan both the reviewed labs and the fax confirmation page (showing it was sent to physician) to medical records for uploading into the patient chart. Initiate employee and patient infection reports, as necessary. Complete review of evaluation documentation and plans of care (POC). Review the data submitted to ensure accuracy with the POC; follow up on any documentation that requires correction. Process POC and verify the correct start of care date. Review comprehensive assessments that cannot be processed due to licensed professional documentation deficiencies; follow up appropriately. Perform and maintain ongoing chart audits according to standard operating procedure. Assist with hospice item set data, as requested; review every error message and to seek guidance from the branch director prior to locking. Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The RN - Trauma Staff Nurse Manager is responsible for managing trauma service personnel, coordinating the workflow and functions of the Trauma Service Line to facilitate safe and efficient workflow and clinical practices. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and senior leadership, this position is responsible for the management and delivery of quality, cost effective, and evidence-based patient care that fits the criteria of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This position is responsible for the Trauma Program’s overall operations with 24-hour accountability. The RN - Trauma Staff Nurse Manager seeks guidance from the Trauma Medical Director and/or executive leadership for unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation from financial/operational policies and standards of practice. Reports to the CNO/Vice President of Patient Care Services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides leadership and serves as the liaison between the trauma service and hospital services necessary to provide care to multiple-injured patients. Ensures that the Trauma Program satisfies all the requirements of the Commonwealth of Virginia designation as a Level 1Pediatric Trauma Center. Serves as the primary contact and resource for the nursing services required for trauma care from the time of admission and continuing through rehabilitation and follow up care. Delegates, problem solves, makes decisions, and develops systems and processes for successful integration and implementation. Provides oversight and management of all aspects of the Trauma Program to include but not to be limited to processes / systems, program analysis, development, implementation, facilitation, evaluation, restructuring, monitoring and/or consultation. Supervise data collection, coding, scoring validation, reporting and analysis to ensure the data drives all aspects of the trauma service line (clinical care, research, benchmarking) Foster and maintain relationships with prehospital agencies and referring facilities and provide feedback on patient care and outcomes. Develop and foster community outreach for the trauma program to raise awareness and promote growth to include injury prevention in the community served Serve as liaison to the Office of EMS and participate in quarterly meetings and workgroups Independently carries out and is accountable for daily operations and other assigned activities Performs all other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Required Licenses and/or Certifications Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required at time of hire or must be obtained within 1 year of hire. Required to obtain 30 Trauma Education Hours (THE) per 3-year verification cycle of which 50% must be from an extramural source (Per state requirement). MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field required. Preferred Education and Experience Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred. 1 year of Healthcare and/or management experience preferred. 1 year of Pediatric, Emergency Department or Trauma experience preferred.
