The Neuroscience ICU Unit is state-of-the-art and the largest in the state of Virginia, equipped with 28 beds dedicated to providing outstanding neurocritical care service for a variety of diseases involving the nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves). The NSICU is an essential component of VCU’s comprehensive stroke center and is the first and only comprehensive stroke center in Virginia. The Patient Care Technician provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner. Essential Job functions: Provide safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit making age-appropriate adjustments as needed. Monitor patients’ conditions and provide updates to the health care team. Provide direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene and safety needs. Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by VCUHS policy Obtain or assist in the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests. The Multispecialty Clinic at Short Pump Pavilion is home to a variety of specialties including Interventional Pain Management, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Rheumatology, Weight Loss, Bariatrics, Plastic Surgery, Surgery Oncology, Colorectal Surgery, Acute Care/Trauma and Wound Care. Located at the Adult Outpatient Pavilion, the Infectious Disease Clinic serves a diverse patient population from birth to geriatric for a wide range of cases such as HIV+ requiring lifetime treatment, cardiac transplant patients with post-op infections and general adult ID cases.
