Directs and supervises the daily work assignments of the Resident Care Assistants. Closely mentors, guides, and directs the Lead Resident Care Assistants in all aspects of their job. Coordinates care needs with community providers via an effective case management process. Effectively balances service demands with supporting resident independence. Recognizes and assists in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation (financial and other) and reports to appropriate sources per state regulations. Responds to emergencies and personal emergency response system and knows when to call for backup. The Cardiomyopathy Center (CMC) is a 16 bed intermediate care unit specializing in the care of patients with advanced heart failure. This unit is comprised of both medical and surgical patients receiving inotropic support and diuresis, often requiring hemodynamic monitoring through a pulmonary artery catheter (PA catheter). Many of our patients are also being evaluated for heart transplants and ventricular assist device (VAD) surgery. The CMC also cares for the patients at Tufts Medical Center that are post-heart transplant and post-VAD surgery. Patients following surgery often have PA catheters, epicardial pacing wires, chest tubes. The position provides direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance. This position requires frequent, prolonged periods of standing and the employee must be able to bend over. The employee may occasionally be required to assist in moving machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs., and may lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs. up as high as 5 feet. There is a two-person assist program and “material assist” devices for the heavier items. SUPERVISION: None EDUCATION: High School Diploma required EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS : None required. At least 6 months’ experience is preferred in related Field (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians). Must obtain CCHT within 18 months of hire. Effective communication skills – both verbal and written. Employees are required to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
